You have probably been horse riding at some point in your life, right? Unless you had an inexplicable fear of our four legged friends as a child, you probably didn't even think twice about throwing yourself onto the back of such a wild beast. Funny how things change as you grow up! It doesn't seem to be just me that this happened to either. A quick review of (adult) friends and family revealed a stronger preference to not risk being thrown off this galloping vehicle by simply avoiding getting on it in the first place. It seems that the "risk factor" outweighs the "yey, let's just do it!" factor associated with our reckless teen and early 20's years. The psychological reasons are very probably linked directly to the onset of age and that irrational fear of going outside our daily comfort zone. No one wants to admit they are not as carefree as they used to be, so we all cunningly hide behind a plethora of excuses such as having too much work to do, I haven't sat down for a week, I really want to watch that TV program, or the good old, mmm, but the weather is not so great for being outdoors right?

I momentarily succumbed to that phase of life, but it didn't last long as my adventure spirit refused to lie low and I managed to successfully pass through to the other side and will now happily jump onto a horse if one crosses my path (well, perhaps not literally!).

So, if you are willing to thrown down the shackles of your comfort zone, get in touch with Sol y Nieve today to organise a horse riding experience that will leave you wishing you had more time down here in Chile to get out into the wilds on 4 legs!

Granted you can horse ride almost everywhere in the world. So why Pucón? And why Sol y Nieve? Here go the simply great 5 reasons:

#1. Sol y Nieve has its very own country ranch just outside Pucón in a secret location blessed with divine panoramas. All excursions include return transport to this location which you will never ever know about unless you sign up for the ride.

#2. You will ride over and around ancient volcanic ash flows on the flanks of our Villarrica volcano. Not only will you have views of Villarrica, but of Lanin volcano too on the border between Chile and Argentina.

#3. The horses live at the ranch so there is no additional time lost in bringing the animals to you. You arrive, thrown on your chaps and off you go!

#4. The ranch itself offers comfort in the form of bathrooms, an indoor space in case of inclement weather, a games area and green spaces designed for lazing around after your ride. There are superb views from all angles.

#5. If you are a group and want to make the horse ride into a full day experience too, then book in advance and a full traditional Chilean style bbq can also be arranged right there at the ranch for when you return.

We forget just how important spontaneity is in our lives. Not to mention that feeling of fresh cool wind on our faces. The adrenaline rush and subsequent excitement caused by your horse galloping slightly faster than you would care it to will stay in your memory for a long while after. And I guarantee that every time you think of that moment it will bring a smile to your face when you are sitting down watching that TV program that you have been wanting to watch all week ;-)
